Optimizing Outcomes for Esophageal Cancer – The Surgical Encounter – Winning at Both Ends? - ISDE 2020 Session Spotlight

Optimizing outcomes for patients is central to the work of ISDE members and their colleagues. This session will include six different topics covered by speakers from around the world, including:

  • John Reynolds, St. James's Hospital, Ireland - Metrics and measuring outcomes – in 2020 what should we be achieving?
  • Don Low, Virginia Mason Medical Center, USA - Enhanced recovery programs (ERAS) – do they make a difference?
  • Franco Carli, Mcgill University, Canada - Prehabilitation – avoiding deconditioning during neoadjuvant therapy.
  • Magnus Nilsson, Karolinska Institute, Sweden - Which patients? – Picking the winners
  • Gail Darling, University of Toronto, Canada - Selecting the surgeon – who should be operating for esophageal cancer?
  • Peter Slinger, University of Toronto, Canada - Selecting the anesthetist – Who should be gassing for esophageal cancer?
