40 Years of HistoryConnecting people from around the world to exchange scientific and medical knowledge about the esophagus and ultimately improving patient outcomes, were among the key motivations for starting International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, and now 40 year’s later we have evolved but our goals remain the same. Founded by Professor Komei Nakayama in Japan during 1979, the first international congress was held the following year in Tokyo and his welcome letter illustrates our humble beginnings perfectly. In-person celebrations have therefore been postponed until we can connect with current and past colleagues on the rescheduled date of August 19 – 21, 2021 in Toronto, Canada. |
