Announcements
The Executive
Committee remains busy planning for the future of our society. Working
committees for the 2010 scientific program (Co-chairs: Andre Smout,
MD, and Yuko Kitagawa, MD), membership (chair: Yvonne Romero, MD),
finance (chair: Marco Patti, MD), and ISDE history (co-chairs: Hiroko
Ide, MD, and Ivan Cecconello, MD) have been established.
Recently the ISDE created two committees charged with developing consensus statements on management of Barrett high grade dysplasia and achalasia. The reports of these committees will be presented at the 2010 Biennial Congress of the ISDE in Kagoshima, Japan, Sep 3-5. Future committees will focus on database participation, clinical research, and scholarships for travel and research.
Please look here for announcements regarding abstract submission for the 2010 ISDE Biennial Congress. Abstract submission opens October 1, 2009, and closes in January, 2010. We are seeking abstracts for oral presentations, posters, and videos. Travel awards are planned for 30 abstracts containing descriptions of original, unpublished research.
We are delighted
to announce that the publisher of our journal, Diseases of the Esophagus,
will fund two Wiley-Blackwell
Young Investigator Awards for original research submitted for
the 2010 ISDE Congress. The awards will help support travel costs
to the Congress. Information regarding these awards can be found
here.
Our journal,
Diseases of the Esophagus,
continues to experience increased growth in its subscription rate
due to the quality of manuscripts submitted by esophagologists from
around the world. We are pleased to announce that our journal has
two new editors, Andre Duranceau of the University of Montreal,
and John Pandolfino of Northwestern University. They have exciting
new plans for the journal, including a special issue celebrating
the 30th anniversary of the ISDE. Our profound gratitude goes to
the former co-editors, Drs. Claude Deschamps and Kenneth Wang, both
of the Mayo Clinic, for their service and leadership.
